Description

Product Overview

GPE manufactures High-Pressure Annular Manifolds, also known as Steel Hose Loops or Cementing and Circulating Hose Loops, for hydraulic fracturing, cementing, acidizing, well testing, circulation and high-pressure Flow Iron systems.

The assembly combines long-radius swivel joints with rigid straight pipe sections to create an articulated pressure-retaining loop. Each swivel section provides rotational positioning, allowing the loop to adapt to equipment spacing, elevation differences and connection orientation without forcing rigid Flow Iron into alignment.

Unlike an elastomeric flexible hose, the GPE Steel Hose Loop is built from forged alloy-steel swivel joints, pressure-rated straight pipe assemblies and Hammer Union connections. The metallic articulated structure provides a controlled high-pressure flow path for temporary well-service lines exposed to pressure pulsation, vibration, repeated rig-up and abrasive treatment fluids.

GPE manufactures two principal structures:

  • Long-Radius Annular Manifold
  • Articulated Annular Manifold

The standard manufacturing range covers nominal sizes from 1 to 4 in and working pressures from 5,000 to 20,000 psi. Style 50 long-radius swivel joints are the standard configuration, while Style 10 swivel joints and mixed Style 10 × Style 50 assemblies are supplied according to the required loop geometry.

Available straight-pipe structures include:

  • Integral union-end straight pipe
  • NPST straight pipe
  • Retained-nut Pup Joint
  • Custom rigid straight pipe
  • Male × Female end arrangement
  • Male × Male and Female × Female project configurations
  • Fig 602, Fig 1002, Fig 1502 and engineered 20K connections
  • Standard Service
  • Low-Temperature Service
  • H₂S and Sour Service

The loop can be folded into a compact transport position, expanded during wellsite rig-up and repositioned after the complete Flow Iron system has been isolated and fully depressurized.

GPE Annular Manifolds integrate with High-Pressure Swivel Joints, Hammer Unions, High-Pressure Plug Valves, High-Pressure Check Valves and Emergency Relief Valves in complete Flowline & Frac Manifold systems.

Product Short Description

GPE High-Pressure Annular Manifolds provide an articulated steel connection between Frac Pumps, cementing units, manifolds, valves and wellhead equipment.

Long-radius swivel joints reduce abrupt directional changes and support smoother flow through the loop. The straight pipe sections provide the required reach, while the swivel arrangement allows multi-plane positioning during rig-up.

The standard Style 50 configuration is used for compact long-radius loops. Style 10 assemblies provide a longer U-shaped routing arrangement, while mixed Style 10 and Style 50 designs combine different swivel geometries in one loop.

Integral and NPST straight-pipe options allow the assembly to match existing Flow Iron systems, maintenance practices and replacement-part requirements.

Confirm the Correct Swivel Style and Loop Dimensions

The nominal size and pressure class do not define the complete Annular Manifold.

The final configuration depends on the required overall length, loop width, equipment centerline spacing, elevation difference, swivel style, straight-pipe structure, end orientation, connection figure, internal bore, working pressure, service fluid and proppant concentration.

Send GPE the existing Flow Iron drawing, centerline dimensions or photographs with measurements. We will confirm the correct loop structure before production.

The complete assembly rating is controlled by the lowest-rated swivel joint, straight pipe, connection, seal package and service configuration.

Long-Radius Annular Manifold

The Long-Radius Annular Manifold combines long-radius swivel joints with two parallel rigid straight pipe sections.

The loop provides:

  • Compact U-shaped routing
  • Multi-plane positioning
  • Defined Flow Iron offset
  • Reduced bend severity
  • Lower local pressure loss
  • Reduced proppant impact at the elbows
  • Easier transport and storage
  • Repeatable wellsite rig-up

The large bend radius produces a more gradual change in flow direction than a compact short-radius elbow.

Configuration 1: Style 50 Long-Radius Swivels with Integral Straight Pipe

This configuration uses Style 50 long-radius swivel joints, integral union-end rigid straight pipe and standard male and female Flow Iron ends.

It provides a compact loop with robust integral pipe ends and direct compatibility with common high-pressure treatment iron.

Primary applications include Frac Pump discharge routing, cementing-unit connections, pump-to-manifold loops, well-test flowlines and high-pressure circulation systems.

Configuration 2: Style 10 Long-Radius Swivels with Integral Straight Pipe

This configuration uses Style 10 long-radius swivel joints and integral union-end rigid straight pipe.

Style 10 geometry is selected when the installation requires a different offset, centerline relationship or turning arrangement than the compact Style 50 loop.

Configuration 3: Style 50 Long-Radius Swivels with NPST Straight Pipe

This configuration combines Style 50 long-radius swivels with NPST straight-pipe assemblies.

The NPST attachment system allows the pressure pipe and union-end components to be manufactured and maintained as a defined assembly.

Advantages include replaceable or serviceable end components, compatibility with established Flow Iron inventories, standardized straight-pipe lengths and controlled union-end orientation.

Mixed Style 10 × Style 50 Hose Loop

A mixed Style 10 × Style 50 assembly combines two swivel geometries to achieve the required loop shape.

The mixed configuration is used for different offsets at each end, restricted equipment clearance, non-symmetrical connection positions and replacement of existing assemblies.

Articulated Annular Manifold

The Articulated Annular Manifold uses a simplified articulated loop with fewer field connection points than a conventional multi-union assembly.

The structure provides:

  • Reduced connection count
  • Reduced potential leakage points
  • Lower assembly weight
  • Easier rotation and positioning
  • Faster rig-up
  • Compact storage
  • Improved operational handling

Steel Hose Loop vs Flexible Hose

Steel Hose Loop Flexible High-Pressure Hose
Forged swivel joints and rigid steel pipe Reinforced flexible hose body
Rotation occurs at defined swivel sections Flexibility distributed along the hose
High resistance to external impact Easier routing around complex obstacles
Replaceable swivel seals and bearings Hose body replaced according to inspection criteria
Requires controlled alignment and support Requires bend-radius and end-fitting control
Common in cementing and Flow Iron loops Common in modern flexible frac flowlines

The GPE Annular Manifold is a steel articulated Flow Iron assembly. It is not an elastomeric hose.

Swivel Joint Operating Principle

Each swivel section contains a male swivel sub and female swivel body connected by precision-machined ball-bearing races.

The bearing system maintains axial engagement, transfers mechanical load and allows rotational positioning between pressure-containing components.

The pressure-supported sealing assembly retains process fluid. The environmental seal protects the bearing chamber from external sand, cement, water and contamination.

Intentional repositioning, lubrication, inspection and disassembly are completed only after the full Flow Iron system has been isolated and depressurized.

Long-Radius Flow Performance

Long-radius elbows create a gradual change in flow direction.

This provides reduced abrupt turbulence, lower local pressure drop, reduced direct solids impact, more even erosion distribution and improved cement-slurry and proppant transport.

The outer radius of each elbow remains a primary UT wall-thickness inspection location.

Integral and NPST Straight Pipe

Integral straight-pipe sections use permanently integrated high-pressure union ends, reducing loose-component count and maintaining stable bore alignment.

NPST straight-pipe assemblies use a non-pressure-seal attachment thread to connect the pipe and union-end component. The pressure boundary is maintained by the approved shoulder, seal and union geometry rather than by the attachment thread alone.

The complete straight-pipe assembly is manufactured, inspected and pressure-tested as one pressure system.

Hammer Union Connections

Hammer Union ends provide rapid makeup and breakout during temporary Flow Iron installation.

The connection is verified by figure number, nominal size, male or female orientation, working-pressure class, seal profile, service class and dimensional compatibility.

Different figure numbers and service classes are not mixed based on visual appearance or color alone.

See GPE Hammer Unions for available connection families and repair parts.

Standard, Low-Temperature and H₂S Service

Standard-Service loops handle compatible non-sour fracturing fluid, cement slurry, drilling fluid, completion brine, water, well-test fluid and flowback fluid.

PL-class configurations use qualified pressure materials, low-temperature seals and impact-tested components for service down to -46°C.

H₂S Service loops use controlled-hardness materials, qualified heat treatment, sour-service seals, full heat-number traceability and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 material selection.

Applications

Hydraulic Fracturing

The Hose Loop connects Frac Pumps, discharge manifolds, Plug Valves, Check Valves, rigid treatment lines, Frac Missiles, Zipper Manifolds and Frac Trees.

Cementing

The loop connects cementing units, high-pressure cement pumps, cementing manifolds, cement heads, circulating heads and wellhead equipment.

Acidizing

Acidizing configurations use materials and seals selected for the acid type, concentration, corrosion inhibitor, temperature, H₂S, CO₂ and chloride content.

Well Testing and Circulation

Steel Hose Loops provide articulated routing between test pumps, manifolds, wellhead equipment and temporary pressure-control systems.

Transportation, Storage and Restraint

The loop can be folded into a compact position for transportation and storage after it is depressurized, drained, cleaned and protected.

Transport preparation includes thread protection, seal protection, swivel positioning, transport restraints and lifting-point verification.

Temporary high-pressure Flow Iron requires an approved restraint system. Restraints supplement correct connection makeup, support, inspection and pressure testing.
